Have you been to Montenegro? Do you know anything about it? I was excited when I saw it was a port of call on our cruise itinerary, since I’d never been but always wanted to go! It felt like we almost drifted into the Bay of Kotor, which resembles a fjord, we were sailing so slowly in the pre-dawn light while the sun lazily appeared behind us. I sipped my coffee on our balcony, watching coastal churches and fortified towns come into view, gazing at the houses and the towering expanses of green above them. Later after the ship had dropped anchor and we’d taken a tender into Kotor, I found myself walking through a town that felt similar to all the European ones I really love but wholly singular onto itself in a way I can’t put into words. Up onto stone ramparts we climbed, past purple clumps of flowers spilling out of rock crevices like pastel tears, and through gleaming stone-paved squares already teeming with people we passed till we hit the side of a mountain.
