The next full Moon will appear today, December 7, known as the Frost, Cold, or Winter Moon. December's full Moon also brings a fun surprise with it as the Moon passes in front of a planet, in this case, Mars. Known as lunar occultation or occults, they happen only a few times a year, and this occult will be visible in North America, Europe, and Northern Africa.⁣ ⁣ On Sunday, December 4, flight day 19, the Orion spacecraft's optical navigation camera captured this #NASAMoonSnap of the full Moon as it continued its approach toward the return powered flyby burn. Orion's optical navigation camera takes photos of the Earth and Moon at different phases, distances, and lighting conditions to help future #Artemis missions.⁣ ⁣ Orion is set to splash down in the Pacific Ocean Sunday, December 11, around 12:40 p.m. ET (1740 UTC).
