Moon, here we come 🌕
After launching atop the Space Launch System rocket on November 16, the Orion spacecraft’s solar arrays maneuvered in preparation for the perigee raise maneuver. The perigee raise maneuver fired the interim cryogenic propulsion stage for just over 20 seconds to raise the lowest point of Orion’s Earth orbit in preparation for the critical trans-lunar injection burn that will send Orion to the Moon. The solar arrays were adjusted to ensure no loads are imparted on the arrays. Then, the flight controller team ensured that the solar arrays maneuvered back to point toward the Sun following the burn.

#Artemis I mission continues on its mission to the Moon and back. On November 21, the Orion spacecraft will perform its outbound powered flyby of the Moon. The burn will occur at 7:44 a.m. EST (12:44 UTC), with Orion’s closest approach occurring shortly after at 7:57 a.m. EST (12:57 UTC).
