JPSS-2 submitted a
#NASAMoonSnap!
The Joint Polar Satellite System (JPSS-2) civilian polar-orbiting weather satellite launched aboard a ULALaunch Atlas V rocket on November 10 at 4:49 a.m. EST (0949 UTC) from VandenbergSpaceForce Base. The satellite was a part of the NOAA and NASA Low-Earth Orbit Flight Test of an Inflatable Decelerator (LOFTID).
JPSS-2 will pass over every single spot on our planet at least twice a day as it collects valuable data that helps feed daily weather models, forecast extreme weather, and monitor climate change. LOFTID successfully inflated and deployed a cross-cutting aeroshell — a type of heat shield — for atmospheric re-entry.
