Ready for the next giant leap?⁣ ⁣ As we prepare for the launch of #Artemis I, set for not earlier than Aug. 29, we also look to the future of the Artemis program by honing in on 13 possible landing spots near the lunar South Pole for the Artemis III mission, our return to the surface of the Moon.⁣ ⁣ The landing regions were chosen for their geologic diversity and relative distance to the Moon’s south pole. The landing sites are grouped to ensure year-round launch flexibility and several are in regions near some of the oldest parts of the Moon. In addition to considering launch window availability, the team evaluated regions based on their ability to accommodate a safe landing, using criteria including terrain slope, ease of communications with Earth, and lighting conditions. NASA identified the following candidate regions for an Artemis III lunar landing: Faustini Rim A Peak Near Shackleton Connecting Ridge Connecting Ridge Extension de Gerlache Rim 1 de Gerlache Rim 2 de Gerlache-Ko...
