Starliner is up, up, and away 🚀
On Thurs., May 19, Boeing’s Orbital Flight Test-2 launched on a United Launch Alliance Atlas V rocket from NASAKennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Florida. About one day later, Starliner successfully docked to the International Space Station (ISS). Starliner is scheduled to depart the space station on Wed., May 25, when it will undock and return to Earth with more than 600 pounds of cargo.
Following certification, NASA missions aboard Starliner will carry up to four astronauts to the station, enabling the continued expansion of the crew and increasing the amount of science and research that can be performed aboard the orbiting laboratory.
As commercial companies focus on providing human transportation to low-Earth orbit, NASA can focus on building the spacecraft and rockets necessary for deep space missions to the Moon, Mars, and beyond.
