Artemis Assemble! 🚀
Teams are preparing to launch a microwave-sized satellite to test out an orbit for Gateway, our future lunar outpost for
#Artemis astronauts.
The Cislunar Autonomous Positioning System Technology Operations and Navigation Experiment (CAPSTONE) will orbit the Moon for six months in a way never done before – in an elongated halo shape, ensuring constant communication with Earth. The location of the orbit is at the precise balance point between the gravities of both the Moon and Earth, which will help the spacecraft reserve fuel.
Like Gateway, CAPSTONE continues the tradition of commercial partnerships, with five companies, including American small businesses, making contributions. The spacecraft was built and tested by Tyvak Nano-Satellite Systems, Inc., a Terran Orbital Corporation in Irvine, California, operated by Advanced Space, and will be launched by Rocket Lab of Long Beach, California.
