Old meets new 🤝 In order to roll NASA’s Space Launch System (SLS) rocket back to the Vehicle Assembly Building (VAB) at NASAKennedy Space Center, technicians guided the Crawler-Transporter 2 underneath SLS with technologies both old and new. A laser aligned the mobile launcher (ML) with the crawler, and to ensure the laser is placed precisely, a piece of parachute cord was stretched across the interface mechanism. The laser guided two technicians – one in front and one behind – to perfectly align the crawler with the ML to within half an inch. NASA plans to conduct another attempt of the wet dress rehearsal in early June to demonstrate the ability to load propellant into the tanks and conduct a full launch countdown ahead of the #Artemis I launch this summer.
