The first flight of Orion will send the uncrewed spacecraft far, far away, 40,000 miles (64,363 km) past the Moon, to be exact, which is farther than any spacecraft has gone before. While the Moon is slightly closer than 12 parsecs away, the spacecraft will make the journey over about three weeks.
