Astronauts experience many changes during space expeditions. 🧑🚀
Recently, one of our NASAAstronauts Mark Vande Hei returned from his record-breaking 355 days on the International Space Station (ISS).
As a part of his research aboard the orbiting laboratory, Vande Hei contributed to Spaceflight Standard Measures, which are used to characterize how the body and mind change in space. These measures will help us better understand how to mitigate the hazards astronauts will encounter on
#Artemis missions to the Moon and future trips to Mars.
Research with Spaceflight Standard Measures includes testing in Earth-based analogs, such as the HERA facility at NASAJohnson. The core measurements include tracking and recording changes in activity level, cognition, sleep quality, personality, balance, and coordination.
Data from these missions are collected in a database within the Life Sciences Data Archive and are available to other investigators. Results will shed light on how the human bod...
