Making a big splash 🌊
Half a century ago, Apollo astronauts John W. Young, Thomas K. Mattingly II, and Charles M. Duke landed in the Pacific Ocean, 11 days after their launch from NASAKennedy.
The primary goal of their mission, Apollo 16, was to survey, sample, and inspect materials found near their landing site in the Descartes region and run experiments both on the surface of the Moon and in lunar orbit. Astronauts Young and Duke participated in three spacewalks and Young completed a “Grand Prix” with the lunar rover. The Apollo missions and experiments paved the way for our return to the Moon with
