Spotlight on the namesake of the Orion spacecraft 🌟
Orion, one of the most recognized constellations, includes prominent, bright stars such as the red giant Betelgeuse and blue giant Rigel. In the center is Orion's "belt" consisting of three bright blue stars. The Orion Nebula is in his "sword" below the belt, just visible to unaided eyes in very clear, dark skies.
In this infrared image, scores of baby stars are revealed in the region NGC 2174, as seen by NASA’s Spitzer Space Telescope. Often called the “Monkey Head,” this nebula is found in the northern part of Orion and is located around 6,400 light-years away. Spitzer’s infrared view provides us with a preview of the next clusters of stars that will be born in the coming millennia.
