First introduced in 1975, NASA’s logo known as “the worm” was developed as a more modern and easily reproducible alternative to the original late 1950s NASA graphic known as “the meatball.” In 1992, the 1970s brand was retired - except on clothing and other souvenir items - in favor of the meatball.
While the NASA meatball remains the agency’s official insignia, the worm is coming back from retirement just in time for the next chapter of space exploration. 🚀
You’ll be seeing more of the worm going forward, starting with the side of the Falcon 9 launch vehicle that will ferry astronauts to the International Space Station (iss) as part of the Demo-2 flight, now scheduled for mid- to late May.
Please join us in welcoming back the NASA worm 👏🏻
