Self-Contained Atmospheric Protection Ensemble (SCAPE) suits are used for complete atmospheric isolation of technicians when fueling Orion with Hypergolic propellants. The Backpack type Cat I suits actually internally generate vaporized breathing air from liquid breathing air. The non-backpack type Cat IV suits require a small tank of breathing air to be hooked up and carried to the work location at which time they disconnect from the tank and connect to a facility supplied breathing air system.
Exploration Ground Systems at NASA Kennedy will be conducting Hot Flow V&V Testing in September. The photo is from a SCAPE Training dry run.
