It’s another exciting day for NASA’s deep space exploration system!
We’re getting ready to fire up an RS-25 engine at NASA’s Stennis Space Center (nasastennis) in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi – join us by following our Story later on in the day and tune in to NASA TV at 2:30 CDT to watch the engine roar to life live. Today’s test is the first in another series of RS-25 rocket engine hot fire tests in support of NASA’s Space Launch System rocket. Operators will conduct a 500-second test of RS-25 developmental engine No. 0525 – complete with a new flight controller unit – on the A-1 Test Stand. The test stand being used was built to flight certify the Saturn V second stage which helped to fly astronauts to the Moon.
