Exploration Ground Systems (EGS) interns have wrapped up a three month experience of a lifetime contributing to the program at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida. This was a challenging and interactive experience for 20 interns with a diverse skill set. Their experience ranged from aerospace to mechanical and computer engineering, to non-technical backgrounds including public relations, business administration and economic.
This photo of the new flame deflector at Launch Pad 39B was captured by an EGS intern during a familiarization tour. The flame deflector will safely deflect the plume exhaust from NASA's Space Launch System rocket during launch. It will divert the rocket's exhaust, pressure and intense heat to the north at liftoff. The Exploration Ground Systems program at Kennedy is refurbishing the pad to support the launch of the SLS rocket and Orion on Exploration Mission-1, and helping to transform the space center into a multi-user spaceport.
Thank you to the interns all...
