Welding is complete on the SLS forward skirt, which will house the flight computers, cameras and avionics – or "brains" of the rocket on our first integrated mission with NASA’s Orion spacecraft in 2018. The top photo shows the hardware inside the world's largest welding tool, the Vertical Assembly Center, at NASA Michoud Assembly Facility. The bottom photo shows the welded piece, right, after being taken off the VAC. The forward skirt is one of the five pieces that make up the core stage of the rocket.
