The Space Shuttle Endeavour landed for the final time at 2:34 a.m. (eastern time) at Kennedy Space Center on June 1, 2011, at the end of mission STS-134. The construction of Endeavour was authorized in 1987 to replace the Shuttle Challenger. Instead of creating a completely new shuttle, NASA chose to assemble Endeavour using, in part, structural spares from Discovery and Atlantis.
