Astronaut John Glenn kicks back aboard the USS Noa after being recovered from the Atlantic near Grand Turk Island after his historic Mercury flight. Glenn became the first American to orbit the Earth on February, 20, 1962 in his "Friendship 7" capsule. The Noa picked him up 21 minutes after impact. Nearly four decades after this photo was taken, #OTD in 1998, 77 year old Glenn went into space again, making #history once more as the oldest human ever to travel in space. During the nine-day mission, he served as a payload specialist aboard the space shuttle Discovery, conducting a #NASA study on health problems associated with aging.
