The photo was taken atop the Space Launch System Mobile Launcher, at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center parked just outside of the Vehicle Assembly Building (VAB). We will launch SLS and Orion from this ML on Exploration Mission-1 (EM-1). Perspective in this photo looks down at the deck where the base of the SLS will sit. At the very bottom of the photo, you can see the edge of the tower structure which is 425 feet tall. At the base of the tower, you can clearly see the deck with the flame hole in the center. The flame hole is shaped to allow the exhaust from the two solid rocket boosters (mounted at the sides of the SLS) and the four liquid engines mounted to base of the core stage in the middle of the rocket. To get a sense of scale, check out the size of that bus, now imagine yourself standing there looking down. Then, imagine you are an astronaut launching atop of that amazing ship...
