Today is the 50th anniversary of the first American spacewalk! It was completed by NASA astronaut Ed White on June 3, 1965. He was quoted as saying “I’m coming back in… and it’s the saddest moment of my life” while reentering the Gemini spacecraft. This moment was an important milestone in history for NASA and for the United States as it paved the way for humans to extend space travel and exploration farther into the solar system.
