Have a look inside the model shop at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center, where technicians have been building models since the early 1960s in support of agency programs. While the Space Launch System program is designing and delivering the nation's next human-rated deep space launch vehicle, builders in the model shop are crafting a small quantity of models for outreach efforts. Made of a casting plastic called alumilite, a model is created by forming an original rubber mold of each piece, pouring and curing the alumilite mixture, assembling the pieces and painting them.
