In 2004, sprinter Nick Horton made history by becoming TSU's first Male Athlete of the Year. Horton set a handful of TSU and OVC records including the 200-meter dash in a time of 20.9 seconds and the 400-meter in 46.69 seconds. He won the OVC Male Track Athlete of the Year award three times and earned invitation to compete in the 2004 US Olympic Trials.
