Alongside PSM, partners Notis Studios (notisstudios ) -DeKoven Riggins and Marcus Brown- and Matt spoke on the topic “Black Cinema and Community Building” this week in the Environmental Design Practicum designed and taught by Professor Vanessa Morrison (vinthecityy ) for the Institute for Quality Communities (ou_iqc ) in the Christopher C. Gibbs College of Architecture (gibbssooner ) at the University of Oklahoma. Our PSCreative team, in partnership with Notis Studios is working on a documentary regarding the history of the Jewel Theatre, “Oklahoma City’s only Black, historical theater,” which served as the Black community’s center for film, music, and public performances during segregated times. The facility still stands in the NE OKC community, and owner Arthur Hurst has plans to restore this piece of our city’s history.
