If you have been on the Lafitte Greenway in New Orleans, you might have noticed a small white shack surrounded by a fenced in garden. That is where 78-year-old Fred Sipp lives and farms. He has occupied the space since 2005. . Sipp was born on a farm in Mississippi where his grandfather showed him how to farm and build. He proudly says he did not grow up playing football, but he played as a quarterback in college for Coahoma Community College and then the now shuttered Prentiss Institute. Sipp decided to move to New Orleans in 1995 and in 2005 he says he started farming on the Greenway before it was the Lafitte Greenway. He is part of the linear park’s landscape. Workers mow the grass around his fence. . Sipp enjoys working on his house he made himself, growing food and reading National Geographic Atlas of the Bible: Exploring the Holy Lands. .
