#wrestlingwednesday - my favorite wrestling drill and one that I think is imperative to creating the stubbornness needed to finish shots.

At the highest level, wrestlers don’t take one shot and get a finish. A second or third re-penetration step is required to beat the angle and defense of your opponent.

So this “step-slide” drill reinforces that into your muscle memory. The step-slide drill will have you taking a second shot, without even thinking about it, after you get to the legs. This helps you shoot THROUGH the legs, not just TO the legs.

The basics are:
•Get in on a bad shot stretched out.
•Step up and dig your heel in the mat.
•Pull yourself to “goal position” head up, chest up, hips in. (X3)
•Turn the corner, outside arm deep to control the hips.
•Run across finish focusing on small choppy steps.
•Repeat until it in ingrained in your DNA.
