I would never downplay the importance of great BJJ in the sport of mma. I believe it is one of the cornerstones of this sport.
-
However, my belief is that there is a lot of harm that can be done when a high level wrestler comes into the sport of mma and a BJJ coach gets ahold of them and teaches them positions that negate the years of wrestling experience they have accrued.

Grappling is grappling. No two opponents will grapple and react the same. Sometimes a BJJ approach would be better suited, sometimes a wrestling mindset would help you fare better. But more often than not, going “all in” on my strengths as a wrestler has worked out for me in grappling exchanges.
-
I’ve stayed a wrestler with a wrestler mindset and never subscribed to positions of concession because I know what my goals in a fight are and I know my strengths.
