STRENGTH + SPEED = POWER
-
You guys hear me talk about it all the time. Coupling a strength movement with a speed/explosive movement is the best way to increase power.
-
I have been training like this for over a decade and it continues to keep my fast twitch fibers firing on all cylinders and continues to help me increase my power in all areas of the game.
-
This doesn’t have to be a well planned, intricate system of training either. A few examples would be to couple:
•barbell back squat(strength) with a box or broad jump(speed)
•bench press(strength) with a medball chest pass(speed)
•barbell lunges(strength) with a fast sled push(speed)
-
Choose two similar movements; one with moderate to heavy weight and one with very little weight or no weight at all.
