Whether something is simple or complex is not a measure of its efficacy or value. Some things are necessarily complex while others are innately simple. It’s easy to overcomplicate things. The goal in teaching, coaching, programming and exercise selection should always be simplify to the point of highest value. ⠀ ⠀ Overcomplicating the simple and oversimplifying the complex are hallmarks of a novice. Often, novices overcomplicate in an attempt to appear competent. Social media is filled with laughable examples of unnecessarily complicated training methods. Be weary of judging the efficacy of a training method by the number of “likes” it garners. These same individuals are also prone to oversimplification of complex concepts because they don’t have a thorough understanding of the subject.
