Leg stiffness is a critical performance capacity in sprinting and jumping tasks. We address this with our athletes in a variety of ways but one of our favorite methods are exercises performed on our flywheel devices from go_exxentric. ⠀ ⠀ Here william.eggers performs half squats with a low inertial flywheel load and maximal intent. Will is an emerging elite track & field athlete with very high maximal strength levels (2.3x BW deep squat, 1.8x BW power clean). He is far beyond the point where his maximal strength values will limit his performance on the track. By performing these partial range of motion squats with maximal effort using the moderate inertia load (very light for someone like Will) and a focus on changing direction from the eccentric (descent) to concentric (ascent) phase very quickly, we are able to address physical qualities that will transfer to speed and jumping ability.
