Sprinting into the weekend like... . How do you train linear speed reaction, and reaction and change of direction abilities all in one drill? In this drill, Athletic Lab’s mikeyoungphd (in his role as the Performance Director for thenccourage) lines up 5 athletes on cones of varying colors. Coach Young calls one color at random. The athlete corresponding with that color cone is free to sprint. All other athletes must take a side step and change direction before they enter their sprint. This incorporates reaction to a stimulus, cognitive processing, change of direction and linear speed in one activity. The “chase” scenario makes the activity competitive and drives intent...which is critical when developing speed. . #athleticlab #iloveal #nccourage #nofinishline #soccerfitness #thenccourage #wakecompetitioncenter #soccer #cary #raleigh #carync #raleighnc
