A group of our seniors and faculty had a profound experience last week at our CHS Senior Silent Retreat, a directed retreat focused on deepening one’s life of reflection and prayer. The three-day retreat was held at Notre Dame Retreat House on Canandaigua Lake in Ontario County, about 95 miles east of Buffalo. The retreat is “silent” since the purpose is personal reflection and prayer that allows participants to listen to God individually, rather than in the communal activities emphasized by our hallmark Emmaus and Kairos retreats. However, the retreat does include talks about exploring Ignatian prayer concepts and other forms of prayer, the celebration of Eucharist, limited group discussions, and one-on-one conversations with an adult director. Overall, the retreat is an opportunity to slow down and experience quiet time in our otherwise busy lives.
