February 26, 1972 🏀 Fifty years ago today, Henry Harris received a standing ovation when he exited his final home game at Auburn. The ovation would not stop when Harris–Auburn’s first Black scholarship athlete and the team captain–sat down. It continued for 90 seconds. With a Black athlete finally given a chance, Harris had embraced his opportunity. Injured or not, he never missed a start, not at Auburn or along any of the Dixie highways where he had to play. He was always there, confronting the past and foreshadowing the future.
