Eco-anxiety and environmental distress are real mental effects of climate change. Described by the American Psychological Association, eco-anxiety refers to the "chronic fear of environmental cataclysm that comes from observing the seemingly irrevocable impact of climate change and the associated concern for one's future and that of next generations". Not everyone is affected the same way as folks of color and other vulnerable populations most at risk. Eco-anxiety can be difficult, often leading to stress, sleep irregularities, and disembodiment. While we're not science experts, we do know a thing or two about caring for the self through mindfulness, conscious consumption, and sustainable activism.
