ICYMI: Students from the Brody School of Medicine established a doula-like volunteer program to bring services to eastern North Carolina. Rural mothers face higher rates of poverty and chronic diseases like diabetes and hypertension. The fellowship project focused on improving birth experiences of high-risk pregnant mothers in eastern North Carolina through the free birth support program to add an extra layer of support for women in the birthing process.
