Student Highlight: Meet Mohamad Alnouri! Here is his story in his own words: I was born in the capital of Syria, Damascus. I moved from Syria to Cairo, Egypt in 2012 and was there for 5 years before I moved to Denver in February 2017. When I arrived to the United States, I didn’t speak any English – zero! I couldn’t ask even for a glass of water on the airplane coming here. In my first week in Denver, I enrolled in English classes at Emily Griffith and found my first job. Soon after that, I participated in the uofdenver’s Food Safety Program and then started a food prep job at a restaurant. This is when I first got the idea that I could start my own restaurant. This year, after a lot of hard work, I opened Jasmine Syrian Food in Aurora. Opening night was February 15th! Whether you are a refugee or not, keep your goals in sight and with hard work you can do whatever you want to do. 🎉 Big congrats to Mohamad! #emilygriffith #emilygriffithtechnicalcollege #syrianfood #immigrants
