This is more than a story about a legendary cheesecake in the Bronx. S&S Cheesecake was founded by holocaust survivor Fred Schuster in 1962, 21 years after he was forced to flee his home country of Germany. Fred is now 97 years old, but he was able to come in to the bakery to tell us his story first-hand; and to taste a slice, for quality-testing purposes.
“Don’t gild the lily,” is the advice he’s given to his son-in-law, who now operates the business. Accordingly, the recipe and process has gone unchanged for 6 decades. 🤯
