#Throwback 📷 Here's some history about our area, the Stampede and how we got the name "Victoria Park." During the 1880s, a portion of land was purchased and allocated for the development of the agricultural fairs in Calgary, which would later be known as the Stampede. The Stampede Grounds were named Victoria Park after Queen Victoria in 1889. 👑⁣ ⁣ The area around the Stampede Grounds was originally called the East Ward, but was referred to as Victoria Park by local businesses & residents. The Victoria Park name became official after the abolishment of the ward system in 1905.⁣ ⁣ By the 1960s, the CalgaryStampede was looking to expand as popularity increased. After failing to expand elsewhere, the Stampede worked with CityofCalgary to move north into Victoria Park. -vicparkyyc⁣ ⁣ #VicParkTakeover #DowntownYYC
