Here's a look back on some of our environmental highlights from the last 30 years:
In 1989, we held our first Mayor's Environment Expo. It's now grown into an event with over 4000 students and 30+ schools participating every year.
In 2001, Calgary Transit became the first public transportation system in North America to be wind-powered.
In 2006, we began capturing methane gas at City landfills, reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
In June 2008, the new Water Centre building opened as the first building in Alberta to be certified LEED Gold.
In 2009, Calgary became the largest municipal user of renewable electricity in Canada.
