In 1935, a Utahn crossed the pond and made the lacrosse team at Oxford University in London. An article from the March 25, 1935, Provo Evening Herald stated that Chauncy D. Harris, a graduate of Brigham Young University studying at Oxford as a Rhodes scholar, played great defense against Cambridge. Harris was the first Rhodes scholar from BYU and his father, Dr. Franklin Stewart Harris, was the president of BYU. "Although Cambridge won 10 to 6, the Utahn's defense work was lauded," said the Herald while referencing a London Times article. Harris wasn't the only Utahn to leave the state and join a lacrosse team. In 1940, Donald C. McMillan, a Salt Lake City native, joined the Army lacrosse team while enrolled at West Point. McMillan is listed as a member of the team in the 1941 and 1942 Howitzer, the West Point yearbook.
