In 2020, the ten states with the highest non-Hispanic Black populations—Alabama, Arkansas, Delaware, Georgia, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia—also rank among those with the most stringent abortion access restrictions. These states are notably marked by significant disparities in maternal and infant health outcomes. Systemic racism affects maternal health outcomes.
