The fourth and fifth grade Home Learning cohort recently learned about ecosystems and animal behaviors. After reading an article about the invasive lionfish that cited marine biologist Dr. Michelle Johnston, the students discovered that Dr. Johnston is the aunt of fifth grader Lily! Lily reached out to her aunt and Dr. Johnston was able to join the home learners to talk to them about her work with lionfish and how they have invaded the ecosystem of the east coast of the US -- she even dissected one! The fourth and fifth graders were so grateful for this unique experience and for Dr. Johnston's expertise. #sasaustin #sasscholars
