Sometimes you have to stop and think how grateful you are to be alive. I’ve never shared this before. In 2009 at the Barcelona GP2 race, I had my most serious accident. By few centimeters, my neck wasn’t broken. I had zero injuries. Pre-halo, in this accident, the rear wheel of another car bushed my helmet with this tyre mark. A little to the right and the whole weight of the car would have compressed my cervical spine. This picture is actually from today, 13 years later. That’s why it is important to move forward with safety and ignore the naysayers. Now with the halo this is extremely unlikely to happen.
