Each time the Chief Architect at #HewlettPackardLabs is granted a new #patent, he earns a new plaque. Despite the impressive collection, Kirk still remembers his first real ‘aha!’ moment. It was November 1998 and Kirk, bored at a meeting in Virginia about a particularly tricky challenge, was doodling in his notebook when he had an epiphany: “Just as a lightning bolt on a dark night illuminates and freezes in time the entire landscape so everything is shown in complete detail, the solution was suddenly clear.” By the time he was back in Palo Alto, Kirk had already completed sketches of what would become his first patent application.
