Dutch schoolchildren bring candles to the Canadian War Cemetery every year on Christmas Eve. The candles are for the fallen Canadian soldiers who liberated the Netherlands during the Second World War. Bagpipes and Christmas horns provide the musical landscape for the ceremony. A candle is lit for each of the 1,393 Canadian burial plots in the village of Holten.
