The official tartan of British Columbia was recorded in the Lyon Court Books in January of 1969. Green is for the province's forests, blue is for the Pacific Ocean and red is for the maple leaf (Canada's national emblem). Gold represents the sun and the crown in the provincial flag. White is for the province's official flower, The Pacific Dogwood.
