The 48th Highlanders of Canada landed on the beaches at Pachino, Sicily on July 9, 1943. This was part of the Allied landing of 160,000 men of a combined British, Canadian and American invasion. . . The 1st Brigade, of which the 48th Highlanders were part, landed in the first wave. The 48th would spend the next 28 days in combat as the Canadian 1st Division sliced up the centre spine of Sicily. . .
