2:10:56! ⠀ Great run by Bumbi this morning in Chicago! In 2015 and 2016 Bumbi’s career was derailed by Sports Hernia surgery followed by a sacral stress fracture. He spent years patiently rebuilding his body and his fitness while adapting to the marathon event. His preparation before Chicago last year was his best in years. And then, within three weeks of the race, he began to feel pain in his hip. He suffered through a couple weeks of painful runs and aggressive physical therapy. In the end the diagnosis was definitive and heartbreaking: a stress reaction in his femur. He withdrew from Chicago the day before the race. ⠀ And so it was back to the comeback trail. Back to slow steady buildups and hours of careful PT and workouts that used to be easy.
