Today, everyone in the Corps is wearing denim jeans as part of the uniform of the day in support of International Denim Day. International Denim Day was established in 1999 after judges in the Italian Supreme Court overturned the ruling that because a 19 year old survivor was wearing tight denim jeans, she had to have assisted her abuser in removing those jeans so her assault must have been consensual. The next day, after the ruling, women in the Italian Parliament wore denim jeans on the steps of the Supreme Court to protest against the ruling and show their support for the survivor. This was the beginnings of #InternationalDenimDay which has been going on for the past 23 years as part of Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention month.
