Japanese American UCI point guard Lauren Saiki (saikisan3) just wrapped up arguably one of the BEST D1 collegiate seasons for an Asian American hooper since Jeremy Lin’s senior season (2009-2010). The 5’3’’ guard truly exemplified ‘heart over height’ as she finished THIRD in the NATION in assists (7 APG), shattering the UCI all-time record for assists in a season! She was the lone Anteater to be selected to the All-Big West First Team, was a dominant scorer (12 PPG) and lead her squad in steals.
Lauren played her high school ball at Mark Keppel HS in Alhambra, where she quickly devoloped into a community icon. As a freshmen in HS, she was named to the All-CIF second team and by the end of her career, she was ranked the 13th best player in the state. The three-star recruit committed to West Virginia but transferred to UCI after her freshmen year.
